SB174 - Microstamping on handguns bill - PUBLIC HEARING on December 1

SB174 - Microstamping on handguns bill - PUBLIC HEARING on December 1

Committee on Judiciary, Corrections, Insurance, Campaign Finance Reform, and Housing
PUBLIC HEARING
Tuesday, December 1, 2009
11:00 AM - or immediately following the executive session, whichever is later.
411 South - State Capitol

Senate Bill 174 - Relating to: creating a microstamping requirement for certain handguns, certification of compliance with the microstamping requirement, requiring the exercise of rule-making authority, and providing penalties.

By Senators Coggs and Taylor; cosponsored by Representatives Young, A. Williams, Turner, Berceau, Grigsby, Colon, Richards, Kessler, Sinicki and Pasch.

From the NRA-ILA:

Problems with "Micro-Stamping"
  • "Micro-stamping" has repeatedly failed in tests.
  • "Micro-stampings" are easily removed.
  • Most gun crimes cannot be solved by "micro-stamping," or do not require "micro-stamping" to be solved.
  • Most criminals get guns through unregulated channels.
  • "Micro-stamping" would increase gun thefts, home invasions and burglaries, and expand the black market in guns..
  • Most guns do not automatically eject fired cartridge cases.
  • Only a small percentage of guns would be "micro-stamped."
  • Most violent crimes don't involve guns. According to the FBI, 3/4 of violent crimes, including 1/3 of murders and 3/5 of robberies, are committed without guns.9
  • "Micro-stamping" would waste money better spent on traditional crime-fighting and crime-solving efforts.
  • "Micro-stamping" would expose police departments to lawsuits if officers fired "unsafe handguns."

WHAT YOU CAN DO:
1. Testify or Register against SB174 at the Public Hearing on December 1st. (Official notice below)
2. If you can't make it to the public hearing, submit your testimony to Sen. Lena Taylor the Judiciary Committee Chairman and 'CC' all the Committee Members. Specifically ask that your testimony and position be part of the official committee record.
3. Contact your State Senator and let them know you are against the bill!
4. Pass this information along to friends and family.

Tell Your Senator to Vote NO on Cloture

Eagle Forum Urges an Unconditional NO Vote on the Cloture Motion to Proceed to the Anti-Life Senate Health Care Bill
Washington, DC - Last evening, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) unveiled his 2,074-page health care bill, the Patient Protection and Affordable Health Care Act. Not only is less strict, less-than-Stupak abortion funding language contained in Reid's bill, but there is still nothing in place to remedy the problem that is the underlying mechanism for carrying out single-payer, government-run health care — the rationing of life-saving medical treatments and placing the most intimate health decisions of every American in the hands of Washington bureaucrats.
Eagle Forum urges the U.S. Senate to cast an unconditional NO vote on the cloture vote on the motion to proceed, which requires a 60-vote threshold and will likely occur sometime on Saturday, November 21st.
"This bill in its entirety is an attack on life at all stages," said Eagle Forum president and founder Phyllis Schlafly. "The presence of the end-of-life counseling provisions in this bill and the Democrats' rejection of all offered amendments to ban the practice of rationing is not a fluke. It is the foundation around which this legislation has been written."
"Regardless of any tweaks made to the abortion language in the bill, one thing is for sure. A YEA vote for cloture on the motion to proceed is not only a vote in favor of government-run health care, but it is also a vote for government-sanctioned euthanasia," said Schlafly. "Just think 'Terry Schiavo' on a massive scale."
Defending life has been a top priority for Eagle Forum since Mrs. Schlafly began battling the radical pro-abortion feminists in the 1970s.
"We all know that being pro-life is more than just being anti-abortion," said Schlafly. "This week, the pro-life community must unite to defend not only the unborn, but the lives of those who rose up all across America in town hall meetings and revealed this bill for what it really is — anti-American socialism."
"There is no cleaning up this bill. Supporting cloture and just hoping for the best is not an acceptable strategy," concluded Schlafly. "The American people's overwhelming opposition deserves to be recognized, and they'll be watching as their Senators cast their votes this week. I urge every Senator who values the will of their constituents to vote NO on this motion."
###

About the Cloture Motion to Proceed: Some "on the fence" Senators have recently released statements trying to frame the cloture vote on the motion to proceed as merely procedural and technical and that this vote does not amount to an endorsement of the bill or of government-run health care. When you make your calls, some staffers may give you this excuse — Do not accept it. Here is some background information for you to use while discussing this topic:
According to an analysis conducted for this office by the non-partisan Congressional Research Service (CRS), between the 106th and 110th Congress, there were 41 cases in which the Senate approved the motion to proceed to a bill that the Senate eventually held a vote on final passage. Of those 41, 40 of the bills received Senate approval (S. 1805 in the 108th Congress was the lone exception). Based on these numbers, when the Senate votes to invoke cloture on a motion to proceed to a bill, that bill has a 97.6 percent chance of inevitably passing the Senate.

As we wade through all of the details of the new legislation for you, please begin taking action right now by calling your Senators and urging them to vote NO on the cloture motion to proceed.

Please call (phone calls are best!) both their district offices and Capitol Hill office.

AFA calls for 2-month BOYCOTT of Gap, Old Navy and Banana Republic

These clothing giants are eliminating Christmas from all advertising.

The American Family Association (AFA) is calling for a boycott of Gap stores.

This week, AFA announced a two-month boycott of Gap stores and the company’s other store brands, Old Navy and Banana Republic. The boycott is based on the store’s refusal to use the term “Christmas” in its advertising campaigns during the last few years. AFA encourages concerned consumers to boycott all three of the clothing retail chains.

Email GAP to express your views: custserv@gap.com

UPDATE: This boycott has been suspended. READ HERE.

"Un"Healthy Youth Act, AB458, kills FREEDOM

Julaine Appling of Wisconsin Family Voice writes -

Fast-tracking legislation is starting early this session in our state legislature.

Take for instance, Assembly Bill 458 (AB 458) introduced this past Wednesday, 9/30, and scheduled for a public hearing in the Assembly’s Education committee this coming Tuesday, 10/6, at 9:00 a.m. Normally this type of “quick and dirty” bill handling doesn’t happen until February or so. Apparently, all bets are off in this Democratically-controlled legislature. Obviously, it’s “taxpayer/concerned citizen beware.”

AB 458, erroneously called the “Healthy Youth Act,” is a very thinly veiled attempt to do away with abstinence-centered Human Growth and Development programs in Wisconsin’s schools. Basically, even if the committee that proposes the curriculum wants to have an abstinence-centered program and recommends such to the school board, they can’t have it. AB 458 would make it illegal.

This “Un-Healthy Youth Act” requires that if a school district opts to have a Human Growth and Development program ( it’s still voluntary in WI), the program must include “medically accurate information” on such topics as “gender stereotypes,” “the health benefits, side effects, and proper use of contraceptives and barrier methods” approved by the FDA (which, of course, includes the euphemistically named “Plan B” emergency contraception). To be fair the law also requires that “the benefits of and reasons for abstaining from sexual activity” must be covered–along with all of the other “comprehensive sex ed” topics.

This proposal also requires that the program a school implements use “instructional methods and materials that do not promote bias against pupils of any race, gender, sexual orientation, or ethnic or cultural background or against sexually active pupils or children with disabilities.”

So, once again, by getting “sexual orientation” included in the above list, the homosexual advocates have prevailed. They have prevented schools from telling the truth about the dangers inherent in sexual activity with persons of the same sex. That right there makes this bill ”unhealthy” for youth.

I’m starting to feel a Rep. Joe Wilson moment coming on. I want to shout, “You lie!”

Cap all this off with a provision that will allow Planned Parenthood-WI or other so-called “family planning groups” to show up and, if a school district wants to, provide all the instruction in this program to all the students. Suppose they’ll refer the students to PPWI’s “Teen Wire” or “Go Ask Alice“? (Caution: if you click on any of the sites linked on the Planned Parenthood “teen page,” be prepared to be offended.)

Yep, “Healthy Youth Act.” You betcha. Wanna buy the “Bridge to Nowhere”?

AB458 passes tonight 48-43 - Get ready for ROUND TWO

Planned Parenthood has effectively trampled on Your values and Your rights tonight.

It should now be clear: Planned Parenthood has a solid grip on the Wisconsin State Legislature after targeting many pro-life legislators for elimination in the last two elections.

The final vote on Passage of Assembly Bill 458 was 48 to 43 - straight party-line vote with the Democrats voting in lock step with Planned Parenthood's extreme agenda and the Republicans plus Pro-Life Democrat Bob Ziegelbauer voting in support of Wisconsin's teens, parents, school districts, and taxpayers.

Next Stop - The State Senate.

STAY TUNED AND BE READY.

Wednesday, November 4, 2009

URGENT! CALLS NEEDED today and tomorrow! Your efforts are impacting!

AB 458 (SEX ED BILL) was tabled until Thursday, TOMORROW, at 10 a.m. (This indicates that Planned Parenthood didn't have the votes to pass their deadly bill. The Dems were in closed Caucus for 5 hours yesterday.)

We need an ALL OUT mobilization of calls and emails on Wednesday and Thursday. If you have called or emailed previously, PLEASE DO IT AGAIN and get 1/2 Million of your closest friends to do likewise.
